Musa itinerans
Also known as: Burmese Blue, Yunnan, Indian Form

Here is a wild species of banana that is widely dispersed throughout continental southeast Asia, from northeast India to Vietnam and adjacent islands. In China, it is usually found in secondary tropical rainforests.

It is shadow loving and can grow to over 18 feet tall. It has a red or purple pseudostem that is generally 7-10 inches in diameter. The tender inner stem is often harvested and eaten. During the juvenile stage the deep green leaves will produce a dark red midrib, which runs into the leaves. Once mature, it produces nice 4-6" small blue-ish purple ornamental bananas that are locally used in Thai cuisines. One unusual feature is that it forms runners or stolons, and even forms them in the distance of up to 2 meters from the mother plant.

Interestingly, it was shown as one of the most resistant and cold tolerant species in the Musa genus, providing valuable resource for the disease resistance and hardiness improvement in banana breeding. Zones: 7b to 10b.

This offer is for 10 seeds.
