The Plant Attraction

Dierama Pendulum
Also known as: Fairy Wand, Angel’s Fishing Rod

With its graceful, arching flower stems and bell-shaped blooms, it is easy to understand why Dierama is commonly called Angel’s fishing rod. This is a perfect perennial for a sunny border or a container. The spring and summer bloom color varies from pink to rose and will grow on stalks 4-5 feet tall, pollinated by honey bees. Its evergreen grassy-looking, thin leaves will grow from 4 to 6 feet tall and can clump 2 to 3 feet.

This African genus of the iris family (Iridaceae) is one of the most well-known and desirable members because it is the largest blooming. It is cultivated outdoors in California and other mild climates. It is a sun-loving corm with moderate water needs. Discontinue watering during dormancy and will be able to withstand light frost (USDA zone 7-9). They dislike being moved or disturbed.
It is a protected species and is currently not threatened.
