Here is a rare medicinal small tree with a short spreading crown. It is a crooked tree with drooping branches and will become shrub-like. It will grow to about 15 feet tall, and prevent soil erosion. It is native to tropical Southeast Asia with a religious significance.

Between February and May it will produce snow white flowers. Leaves are typical Bauhinia like, shaped like cow's hooves. They are broader than long, 2-5 X 3-6 cm. The tree is more or less deciduous, but the new leaves are sometimes produced before the old leaves fall. The leaves are used in the production of beedi, a thin Indian cigarette. It is also a source for animal fodder. Young leaves are cooked as a vegetable and seeds are eaten raw. It contains nutritional components like Vitamin-C; Calcium, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Sodium.
Its been used for medicinal and therapeutic purposes since ancient times, way too many to list here. The medical value of this plant has attracted more attention over the past few decades with expanding research and studies.

It can be grown in a container and has been used for bonsai.
Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and prefers well-drained soil. Suitable pH: acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils. It cannot grow in the shade well. It prefers moist soil, but is drought tolerant. Said to grow in USDA zones 9-11
