Melianthus Comosus
Also known as: Tufted Honey Flower

Here is an exotic and attractive fast growing multi-stemmed shrub that is indigenous to South Africa. In April to midsummer the brightly colored red flowered petals that some say smell like hazelnut, produce an abundance of nectar that attracts a wide variety of birds, bees and butterflies. It can grow up to 1.5 meters tall and have large, grey-green, serrated leaves that are clustered towards the tips of the branches. All parts of the plant produce an unpleasant smell but only when bruised.

It prefers full sunlight, and well-drained, good garden soil. It is an ideal plant for a low maintenance, water wise garden, but it does need to be pruned to keep it neat and to encourage new growth. It can also be planted in the informal shrub border and makes a good accent at the side of a pond. It can tolerate very hot, dry and frosty conditions, USDA zones 9-11.
Family: Melianthacea

This offer is for 8 seeds.
