Ginkgo Biloba
Also known as: Maidenhair
Undoubtedly one of the most distinct and beautiful of all deciduous trees that is native to China and its fossils date back 270 million years! It is a conifer that matures slowly up to 100' tall with a spread of 25-30'. Young trees are often very open but they fill in to form a denser canopy capable of blocking sunlight and adds visual interest and beauty to landscaping. Unique, fan-shaped leaves have a vivid yellow fall color which is second to none in brilliance, even in the south. It is practically pest-free, and resistant to storm damage. Also makes a great choice for bonsai.
Its nuts can be roasted and are a delicacy in its native land, however if they are not cooked properly they can be toxic. Treatment for short term memory loss is just one of many medicinal uses for the extract that comes from the leaves of Ginkgo biloba trees, and is now recognized and widely used in western herbal medicine. The therapeutic properties of the ginkgo plant are also said to include treatment for blood disorders, enhancement of cardiovascular function and to improve eye health.
It can tolerate many urban conditions including heat, air pollution, salt and confined spaces. Full sun and partial shade are best for this tree, meaning it prefers a minimum of four hours of direct, unfiltered sunlight each day. The ginkgo grows in acidic, alkaline, loamy, moist, rich, sandy, silty loam, well drained, wet and clay soils. It tolerates moderate drought and wetness but doesn’t grow well in hot, dry climates.
USDA zones 4-9.
This offer is for 8 large seeds.
