Cornus Florida Rubra
Also known as: Pink Flowering Dogwood

It arguably may be the most beautiful of the native American flowering trees. It is native from Maine to southern Ontario to Illinois to Kansas south to Florida, Texas and Mexico. It is the state tree of Missouri and Virginia.

It is a small deciduous tree growing to 33 ft high, often wider than it is tall when mature which features almost oriental horizontally-tiered branches, with a trunk diameter of up to 1 ft.
Red Flowering Dogwood features showy clusters of pink flowers with pink bracts held atop the branches in mid spring. It has forest green foliage which emerges burgundy in spring. The pointy leaves turn an outstanding brick red in the fall. It produces red berries from early to late fall. The warty gray bark adds an interesting dimension to the landscape.

Popular as a specimen or small grouping on residential property around homes, near patios or in lawns. Also is a good tree for planting near utility lines and next to buildings. Few small trees suitable for garden use match their year-round beauty. Also effective in woodland, bird or native plant gardens.

Grow in average, medium moisture, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Prefers organically rich, acidic soils. Benefits from a 4-6" mulch which will help keep roots cool and moist in summer.
Hardiness Zones 5–9.

This offer is for 10 seeds.
