Papaya, everyone's favorite prized tropical fruit for its sweet flavor, buttery texture, and superfood reputation. Whether you're slicing up juicy orange to salmon colored chunks for breakfast or tossing shredded green papaya into a spicy salad, this fruit adds flavor, color, and nutrition to your plate. The black seeds are also edible with a peppery flavor and loaded with potential health benefits.

It is fast growing 10-15ft tall and sometimes taller in great conditions. It's a short lived perennial with a single, soft trunk and umbrella-like crown. Fragrant flowers are small, creamy white and attracts butterflies and bees. Plants may be male, female or hermaphrodite (self-fertile). The large melon-like fruits are technically berries and weight between 1.5 to 3 pounds. It fruits quickly in ideal conditions and will attract birds, bats and small animals. Unripe fruit contains papain- use care if you're latex sensitive and avoid unripe fruit in pregnancy. Thrives in full sun, heat, and humidity. Prefers fertile, well drained soil with regular deep watering in extreme heat but avoid waterlogging. USDA zones 10-12 and is frost sensitive.
