Right next to Oriental Lilies and Tuberose, Lily of the Valley ranks high on the list of plants with fabulously fragrant flowers. Each Lily of the Valley bulb, or "pip," as they are called, produces a single sturdy stem embellished with up to a dozen tiny, scalloped, bell-shaped blossoms. While the pips may not readily bloom the first season, they will naturalize and multiply for gorgeous groundcover in future seasons. At the base of the stem, fresh green leaves complete the lush carpet.
Carefree and oh, so hardy, Convallaria Prolificans thrives in moist, shady areas where many other plants will not survive.
