Here is a evergreen shrub native to South American countries, including Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, and Chile. The fruit has a sweet and tart flavor, often described as a blend of tropical pineapple and tomato. It's a versatile fruit that can be eaten raw, cooked, or in the form of jams or jellies and is a rich source of vitamin C, antioxidants, and other nutrients.

They typically grow to a height of 3-6ft tall and will fruit from late summer to early fall (July through November), about 7 to 10 weeks after it flowers. The berries are ready to harvest when the papery husk turns tan and the fruit inside is a bright orange-yellow and detaches easily. It prefers full sun but can tolerate partial shade. Grows well in a variety of well-drained soils, including sandy loam, and tolerates less fertile soil. Hardy in USDA zones 8-11, though some sources specify zone 10-12 for perennial growth. In cooler climates (zones 8 and 9), it can be grown as an annual or overwintered by protecting the plants or bringing them indoors.
