Lachenalia Rubida

This is a genus with bulbs in the Hyacinthaceae family found in Namibia and South Africa. The flowers that appear before the foliage are lovely ruby red to pink and speckled. Tubular blooms almost 4cm long. Blue green and attractive spotted leaves will follow. overall height 6 to 25cm.

This perennial can be planted as a wonderful border plant with partial to full sun in warmer climates or suitable in a container. Frost tender, requiring minimum temperatures of 36 to 39F. This species is well worth including in any collection and is relatively easy to cultivate from seed. Prefers a well drained sandy loam and cool dry summers.
