Here is a prized ornamental, evergreen climbing shrub usually seen 2-5 m high, occasionally to 10 meters. It is common in the forests of the Indian subcontinent, Indo-China, China and Malesia. Beautiful flowers which are essentially a spreading spray of pink-white stamens, appear solitary in leaf axils. The flowers turn dark pink while fading. Several species of butterfly larvae feed on its leaves.
Caper fruit turn blood red when ripe and can be eaten raw, cooked or even pickled. Almost all parts of the plant are used in folk medicine and traditional practices to treat several human ailments. USDA Hardiness Zones 10 to 11.
