The Bhutan banana is fairly rare and was only discovered in 1994. The species is barely known in cultivation. The plant can grow pretty tall up to a maximum of 3-4 meters with a spread of 1.5 meters. It will have a pinkish white inflorescence and grow relatively fast. The midrib of the huge leaves have a distinctive dark purple hue on the bottom, a silver hue to the stout, waxy pseudostems, and can be confirmed by the winged petioles.

The plant can be kept as a container plant and prefers full sun to partial shade. Said to be frost hardy to a minimum of 5C/41F.
