The Plant Attraction

Ratibida columnifera
Also known as: Mexican Hat, Long-Headed Coneflower, Prairie Coneflower

Mexican Hat is the mahogany-red colored form of the Prairie Coneflower that blooms from mid-summer into fall. A good naturalizing wildflower, that attracts bees, songbirds, and butterflies. The fine foliage contains chemicals which make it unpalatable to deer while the young foliage is very nutritious to livestock.

This sun-loving plant does best in well drained, rocky, sandy, and clay soils. Very drought resistant once established.
USDA zone 4+
